Getting ready for week 2

Tutorials and Labs start this week, and there are a few things you'll need to do. Please make sure that you've read the lab notes [download] before you arrive at your lab, they are quite long. Please also read chapter 1 of the text book, and attempt part (a) of each of the odd numbered questions in section 1.4 before your tutorial. You'll get the most benefit from your tutor/demonstrator if you're ready to ask questions when you arrive.

Other than that, the rest of us look forward to meeting you this week. -- Duane Leslie (head tutor).

Timetabling

Here's some information that may help you as you work out your timetable for semester 2. There are 5 tutorial slots to choose from, all scheduled on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning so that they fit between our two lectures. There are 5 lab sessions to choose from; these have an optional second hour as requested by last-year's students; please try to keep the second hour open in your timetable. Friday at 12 noon is an optional question/answer session where I'll go over any material from lectures, but won't present any new material.

Textbook advice

Please obtain your own copy of the textbook, either first or second edition. This is an excellent book and we will follow it closely in lectures and tutorials. Please read the introductory chapter now, before lectures start! [PS: More copies arrived on Thursday 20 July.]
